College Readiness Program - History
The College Readiness Program began during the year of 1986. A young woman whose strongest desire was to become a doctor of veterinary medicine inspired the catalysis for such a program. While applying to various Colleges to pursue her career, this student was informed that her academic high school left her far short of receiving due consideration for acceptance in an institution of higher learning. Meeting with this young woman, lead to the beginning of the College Readiness Program.
That Fall, she as well as 23 applicants, began their journey to higher education. Courses in English, Math, Science, and Foreign Language were held on late afternoons and evenings. Successful completion of all classes enrolled, required a “C” or better in each course. Grades lower than “C”, were not accepted. This requirement continues and remains as such today. Once the student earns the credits necessary to transfer to a four-year institution, College Readiness guides him/her through the process. To conclude our participants’ pursuit of higher education, I am pleased and proud to tell you that this young woman now owns a degree in Veterinary Medicine and has established her own hospital in Florida.
CRP reaches out to woman and minorities, and encourages all students to enter disciplines that are critical to America’s needs.
